Garfield man arrested for rape

GARFIELD - A 34-year-old man is in the Benton County Jail after an investigation into allegations that he provided alcohol to two teen-age girls and raped one of them.

John Richard Matlock of Garfield was booked into the Benton County Jail at10:24 a.m.

Sunday, Sept. 29.

He is charged with two counts of contributing to thedelinquency of a minor, one count of felony rapeand one count of felony sexual indecency with a child. By Tuesday morning, a $100,000 bond was set.

The Benton County Sheri◊’s O◊ce was notified that two girls, ages 12 and 15, were being taken to Mercy Medical Center for treatment after thegirls fled Matlock’s home and ran to home of the 15-year-old. According to the girls’ statements, Matlock raped the 15-year-old and exchanged lewd text messages with her, according to the probable cause a◊davit. Both were interviewed at the Children’s Advocacy Center.
