‘Friends’ contribute so much to the library

I have mentioned several times that we would love to start a Friends of the Library group. I have just learned that there will be a webinar How to Start a Friends group, presented by United for Libraries executive director Sally Gardner Reed, at 12 p.m.

Tues., Oct. 22, 2013. I plan to register for this and if any of you are interested contact me. “Friends” contribute so much to a library and our library would benefit greatly from a group.

A baker’s dozen of 3- to 5-year-olds from Kid’s Academy will be visiting the library at 10:15 a.m. on Wednesday. We are looking forward to their visit.

A few of the children visit the library regularly, but for some this will be their fi rst visit.

National Mental Health Week is Oct. 6 - 13. The aim of Mental Health Week is to promote social and emotional well being to the community, encouraging people to maximize their health potential, enhancing the coping capacity of communities, families, individuals and increasing mental health recovery. Two copies of “Crazy: A Father’s Search Through America’s Mental Health Madness,” have been donated to our library by Mental Health America in Northwest Arkansas, and are available for check-out.

This is the start of budget negotiations for the library for 2014. Let us know what you would like to see in the coming year for the PRCL. We know you want more hours and we are addressing that. Let us have your thoughts and ideas.

You can talk with me at the library or email the library at [email protected].

The latest Nicholas Sparks book - “The Longest Ride” - was purchased last week along with “Silencing Eve” by Iris Johansen and Bill O’Reilly’s latest - “Killing Jesus.”

The number 2, 3 and 4 teen books on the New York Times Best Seller List for Oct. 6th are “The Fault in Our Stars,” by John Green and “Divergent” and “Insurgent” by VeronicaRoth. The next book by Ms. Roth is “Insurgent” and is due out Oct. 22.

We also have several of the “I Survived” books for the 8- to 12-year-olds along with the latest 39 Clues book, “Nowhere to Run.”

This change in the weather makes it the perfect time to check out a few books and read!

See you at the library!
