Overcoming fear - you are an army of one

I copied this saying from an old magazine. “Concerning fear, you are an army of one!” I was pleased to overcome my fear and I drove a dreaded highway! I was pleased with Connor for winning the standoff with a large spider at the mailbox!

Big time fear!

What could be better than sitting at a football game on a Saturday afternoon, with a light breeze making the lined jacket feel good and yet the sun on my shoulder building some heat. There were big white puffy clouds in a clear blue sky. I missed a couple of plays when I took the time to express appreciation and give thanks. Then the drive back through town was breathtaking with all the colors. I don’t remember Pea Ridge ever being this colorful.

My dad was a lifetime farmer. He worked and raised animals for most of his life. He surmised as how animals couldn’t tell time. He never changed his clock so when we allmarried and left home we had to keep in mind our time and his time for dinner, appointments, etc. But changing times reminds me to remind my family that Thanksgiving dinner is at my house this year and it will be held the Sunday before Thanksgiving. We discovered that it worked better to have ours early as all the married grandsons were having to fi gure out how to eat more than one meal that day. Allen will have hip replacement the middle of the month but he assures Mom he’ll make it for dinner that day. Of course, Melodia will have to drive.

More about fear, I was riding with a friend when I noticed her double checking before she changed lanes. She told me, a week ago she had been honked at and given a rude hand signal when she realized that car had been hidden in her blind spot. We agreed to be thankful he was able to avoid her, but her fear now shows. She’s an army of one. I was following a moron on Hudson Road when I noticed he kept jamming on his brakes every time a car would approach from the side. I realized he’d obviously had a wreck recently under those conditions.

Then I realized I was doing the same thing because of the space I was leaving between me and the next car. It would be obvious that I had rear ended a car recently. All of us were an army of one, fi ghting our fear. Whatever it takes!

A sister-in-law called out of a blue sky. She said she thought of me as she was kicking off her outdoor shoes so she just dialed me. She couldn’t know how welcome her call was. It had been a terrible week plus I had to have Oak View put my little house dog to sleep. It was the right time and the rightthing to do, but I wish some one had told my tear ducts that. Her call was just right! So I encourage you to call someone you haven’t heard from in awhile. Don’t worry about whether it’s a bad time or if they have time, you can always judge how the call is being received and cut it short if need be, or it could be just the call that someone needs.

When I sat a bowl of water down on the black cat’s tail, he and the bowl of water went two feet in the air.

All I saw was a black streak and I were drenched from my knees down, But I got a good laugh at how fast that old Tom cat could move. I wonder if he’s still going.

The Pea Ridge United Methodist Women are holding their fall Bazaar Friday, Nov. 8. I’ll see you there!
