Good books for sale at Pea Ridge Library

Halloween is over and, if the size of the crowd across the street at The Ridge Church is any indication, I believe the children of the community had a good time. We had fewer than normal maybe due in part to the weather but more likely it was the number of large events being held in the area. Although we didn’t see many trickor-treaters, there were several really frightening costumes as well as some really cute ones. Had some parents and children who had not been in the new library before who said they would be back to get library cards.

We are busy now moving some collections around to make room for new additions. It is our hope that we will soon have all books in a series by a particular author clearly marked to make it easier for patronsfind all the books in a series.

Work continues on entering the donated DVDs into the system. We currently have several ready for check-out. These are older but you may fi nd something you haven’t seen or would like to watch again.

Last week I wrote about ways to help your library thrive. One way was to give a subscription to a newspaper or magazine. This week I received notifi cation that our subscription to “Time” magazine was coming to an end. I don’t know who was kind enough to make this donation - it has arrived at the library each week for as long as I can remember. Sadly, no one reads it.

I am asking that it not be renewed. The library subscribes to The TIMES and many magazines are donated. Thank you to whoever has been so generous to the library for all these years.

A number of older cookbooks have been donated to the library to sell. These cookbooks and lots of fi ction and non-fi ction paperback and hardback books are available for purchase.

There are still a few of the library cookbooks available for only $5 each.

Saturday morning, I stopped in Marvin’s IGA to pick up a couple of items. I was delighted to see several tables with food “samples”!

Since I didn’t want to snub anyone, I tasted everything except the really good smelling chili - just a little early for that! I tasted and munched my way through the store and then someone asked if I had signed up forthe several give-a-ways!

Free food and a chance to win something; give me the entry blank and a pen.

Imagine my surprise when I got a call in the afternoon telling me I had won a gift basket full of goodies - cookies, jam, hot chocolate, apple cider, popcorn and a candle, etc. Thanks Marvin’s - I will enjoy it all.

Time for me to have some hot chocolate and a cookie. See you at the library!
