Ash sings bass in winning bluegrass band

Adam Ash and the Bluegrass group, Pure Tradition, won second place in 2013 National Single Mic Championship hosted by Silver Dollar City on Saturday, May 18. The group is comprised of Dylan Hall, Daniel Collier, John Meyer and Adam Ash and has been together since February. They specialize in the traditional sound and style of Bluegrass music.

Dylan Hall of Jay, Okla., played the guitar and sang lead vocals for the group.

Daniel Collier of Claremore, Okla., played the mandolin and fiddle and sang baritone. John Meyer of Boliver, Mo., played the upright bass and sang tenor. Adam Ash, manager of Flying RF Feed and Farm Supply in Garfield and resident of Pea Ridge, played the banjo and sang bass.

The 2013 National Single Mic Championship was held at Silver Dollar City in Branson, Mo. Twentytwo bands from across the nation competed in the championship. The bands had to use a single condenser microphone for the entire performance.

Using a single microphonerequires the band to “work the mic” so that each member is adequately heard at the appropriate time in the performance, as well as producing a balanced sound throughout.

The group played two sets in the contest with two different panels of judges.

As a result of winning second place, the band received a $1,200 cash prize and will be booked at Silver Dollar City during the May 2014 Bluegrass and BBQ festival.
