Library Notes: School children visiting new library

Does it seem possible that the end of the school year is so near? I asked that question of a friend this morning and her reply was “yes, if you are a student or teacher.” And I am sure she is correct. What an exciting and perhaps, a little scary, time for the soon-to-be graduates. Congratulations to all of them as they embark on an exciting journey!

There are so many exciting events planned at the library in the coming weeks. This week we will welcome the sixth graders on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday afternoons. The following week the primary grades will visit the library on Monday and Thursday.

The library is normally closed on Monday and Fridays but we are happy to extend our hours to enable the students to visit.

We are hoping to start the Summer Story Hour at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 6, at the library. If we have enough participants we will also have a Story Hour each Wednesday morning at 10:30 a.m. I have two young ladies who will read and then help the children with a craft project. It would be helpful if you would come by the library and fill out the sign-up sheets before the first day.

The Summer Reading Program will run from June 11 through June 27. Sign-up will begin May 28. Each child will receive a form to record the books they check-out from the Pea Ridge Community Library and READ. Prizes will be awarded to the child who reads the most books in their grade level. Children in kindergarten through fifth grade are eligible to participate. A party will be held at a date and time to be announced later for all participants. This is a fun way to help the children keep up their reading skills over the summer.

Mark your calendars for the Pea Ridge Community Library Open House from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, June 4.

Dignitaries will speak at 6 p.m. There will be drawings for door prizes every half hour beginning at 4:30 p.m. Light refreshments will be served. Come join us as we remember our past and look forward to our future.

Just because we have made the move to the new building does not mean that we are finished with fund raising. A very pretty quilt has been donated and we will be selling raffle tickets at the open house and for a short time after that.

The library is pleased to have Beth Ash as a volunteer this summer. She will be doing a variety of duties and I am so grateful to have her assistance.

Looking forward to meeting the students and teachers this week and next!

See you at the library!
