NEBCO receives grant

ROGERS - In an effort to support firefighters, police and emergency medical services across the country, Firehouse Subs set up a Public Safety Foundation to assist with grant money to help pay for equipment or resources needed by these public safety organizations.

One of their latest grants was to the NEBCO Fire Department for a Scott Eagle 320 thermal-imaging camera. The formal presentation was made on May 1 at the Firehouse Subs Restaurant on Promenade Boulevard in Rogers with members of NEBCO and Firehouse Subs on hand for the afternoon event.

Robin Peters, executive director of the Firehouse Subs Foundation along with Arkansas representative Jim Maxwell and local franchisee Tracye Bush welcomed firefighters into the restaurant to show the company’s support for local public service organizations. To date the foundation has given morethan $6.3 million to hometown heroes in 36 states and Puerto Rico. The grant given to NEBCO was for $10,000 which brings the total grant money given in Arkansas to just over $172,000.

Firehouse Subs was founded by two former firefighters, Chris and Robin Sorensen. The foundation was started in 2005 in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina as the brothers assisted in feeding emergency workers in the days following the disaster.

“The thermal imaging camera that is now in service at NEBCO will assist firefighters in seeing through the smoke to find unresponsive victims and will cut in half the time it may take to find someone in a burning structure,” noted NEBCO Capt. Nick Mason at the ceremony.

“Partnerships like these are essential in being able to provide the highest level of service to the people we serve at NEBCO FD on a daily basis, so we thank Firehouse Subs for allowing us to have this lifesaving piece of equipment at our department.”
