Tony Fletcher Jr. served schools

“He’s one of those guys who helped make Pea Ridge what it is today,” Mayor Jackie Crabtree said of Tony Fletcher Jr.

Fletcher, 79, died Monday, March 18. He served on both the Benton County School Board and the Pea Ridge School Board for many years.

He was first elected to the Pea Ridge School Board on March 19, 1974. He served for 15 years, and did not seek re-election in 1989.

“He made good, sound decisions. He will be missed greatly,” Crabtree said.

Doug McKinney, who served with Fletcher on the Pea Ridge School Board, said: “He was just down to earth. He was for the school. He had good common sense.

“He was for the kids; with Tony, it was all about the kids,” McKinney said.

Kent Webb, who served on the Pea Ridge School Board from 1981-1988, said of Fletcher: “He was a mighty nice fella’ ... He certainly was for education.”

“Dad was a very independent man who championed education and was a staunch supporter of Black Hawk sports,” Tony Fletcher III said.

“He attended most games, home and away and was seen going to college games of Pea Ridge graduates.”

Fletcher was born July 27, 1933, in Rogers. He graduated from Rogers High School and served in the U.S. Army. He was a supervisor at RTW from 1965 until 2002.
