LIBRARY NOTES: New library will be open April 2

The past week was spent preparing for the move. Thursday night, a dear friend and I boxed some files and paperwork. Friday, I was able to box up the items from my desk. A beautiful office desk has been donated and was moved in on Saturday along with a matching two drawer file cabinet. By the time you are reading this, all the books, shelves, etc., will be in the new building. The members of the Library Board and I will be busy learning a new system, scanning each book, getting it labeled and entered into the system and then shelving each book. If all goes according to plan, we should be finished in time to open the library on Tuesday, April 2. This is a monumental undertaking but I have every confidence that all will go well.

The interior of our new home is almost complete. A water fountain will be installed soon. The security cameras have been installed and will be on 24/7. These will allow the library personnel to monitor all areas of the library. Two public use computers have been installed. We will receive a donation of at least two and perhaps more computers which will be installed after we open.

There is currently no book drop available at the new building. Until one is installed, we ask that patrons continue to drop book returns at the library building on Pickens Street.

I appreciate all the offers to help with the move. It is heart-warming that so many people are willing to help. Once the movers have finished, it will be up to the members of the Library Board and volunteers to finish the job.

For many years, there has been a large trophy sitting atop the a file cabinet in the library. This trophy was won by the City Band of Pea Ridge in, I believe, 1929. The trophy now has a new home with the Pea Ridge Historical Society. I believe they have plans to display it in the SEEK building along with other musical memorable from that era.

Thank you community for helping us reach our goal.

See you at the library in April.
