Battle is on Sugar Creek

A Battle of Pea Ridge reenactment is scheduled for Friday, March 22, through Sunday, March 24, on the Kent Webb farm north of Pea Ridge near the Missouri state line, according to Steve Bailey.

The initial battle reenactment will be held at 4:30 p.m. Friday, March 22, in a pasture on BigSugar Creek on Webb’s farm.

Friday will be “Kid’s Day,” ac-cording to Steve Bailey, of Arkansas Reenactor Educational Association, who said there will be more than 500 students to view the scene.

Other events include a ladies tea, a Civil War symposium on the Western War and a period grand ball.

The reenactment will conclude with a battle at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, March 24.

Bailey said the group hopes to raise funds for the Pea Ridge National Military Park Foundation to retire the debt on the Andy Thomas paintings. He said reenactments are not allowed on federal land, “only living histories.”

“This will be a full blown reenactment - force on force,” Bailey said.
