Four vie for School Board seat

Pea Ridge School Board members serve five-year terms; one seat opens for election every year. This year, the seat held by Darin Wright is up for election;

Wright is seeking re-election.

Wright has competition. Three men have also filed for the seat.

They are John Dye, Braxton Hurst and Ron Mullikin.

Dye is a certified public account and partner in a CPA fi rm in Bentonville. A native of Seligman, Mo., he graduated from Southwest High School in Washburn, Mo. He said he wants to be involved more in his community and the growth and direction of the school system.

“I want to provide leadership on the board from a business perspective,” he said, adding that he has a passion for the school as his mother was a school teacher at Southwest for more than 30 years.

He is married to Bobbye Jo Dye. The Dyes own Dye Hards Gym, which he refers to as a community investment the couple made more than five years ago. They have three children, two of whom are in the Pea Ridge School system - a fourth-grader and a fi rstgrader, and one toddler.

Dye said he has no relatives employed by the Pea Ridge School District and has never attended a School Board meeting.

Braxton Hurst, a planner in the Walmart home o◊ce, said he’s running for School Board to serve the community “that we call home. This is where Courtney and I will raise our children and I want to be an active participant in this community, not only for my family’s sake, but for the entire community.”

Hurst is married to Courtney Brown Hurst, a teacher in the school district. They have two children - a 4-year-old and an 8-month old. A native of Rison, Ark., he graduated from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville. He is in the Army National Guard.

Hurst said he has attended two School Board meetings - one this year.

Ron Mullikin has served on the Pea Ridge School Board in the past. He was one of several people to apply for appointment to the seat vacated by Rick Webb.

Mullikin is manager of No-limit Logistics in Pea Ridge.

Mullikin said he has three sons in the Pea Ridge school system - a fi fth-grader, a third-grader and a secondgrader. He also has a grandson who will attend kindergarten in a couple of years.

He said he has attended two to three School Board meetings in the past year.

A native of Brighton, Iowa, he graduated from Washington High School in Washington, Iowa, and attended Ellsworth Community College and University of Phoenix.

Wright, a native of Pea Ridge, graduated from Pea Ridge High School in 1989. He is self-employed and is a full-time student at CTU, and expects to graduate in 2014 with a bachelor of science in criminal justice.

Wright said he wants to help make a di◊erence in the school district his children attend.

“I have had the opportunity in my current term to see the school and city come together to serve the needs of the students such as providing the School Resource O◊cer to the school district and I would like to see the relationship continue to grow to better serve the students in our district,” he said.

Wright and his wife, Carmen, have two children, both of whom attend Pea Ridge schools - an eighth-grader and a fi rst-grader.

He said he has no relatives employed in the Pea Ridge School Distirct.

Wright said he has attended about 65 School Board meetings as well as School Board training meetings.
