Library Notes: Volunteers needed to work in new library

— Saturday morning I woke up wondering what I will write about in my column once we get moved in the new building! For the so many months I have talked about the progress on the building, funding needed to move forward, needing volunteers to tear out, volunteers to build it back, funding again and always volunteers for the current library. My hope is that columns I will write after the move will be about all the usage the library is receiving and how busy we are with the literacy program, children’s activities, etc.

and, of course, the need for volunteers. Any good organization depends on volunteers and this library is no different. Volunteers will be needed more than ever in the new building.

Come on in and talk with me about becoming a library volunteer.

With moving day moving ever closer, we will not be able to accept any book donations until after we are settled in our new home. If at all possible, keep them until that time. Your donations of books and magazines have been a great help to the library and the community.

I will probably not be purchasing many new books until after the move - we just simply won’t be able to get them processed and on the shelves.

I did purchase some Daisy Meadows Fairy books and get them ready for checkout last week. When one young girl came to my desk with all of them I knew I had made a good choice.

Took a bit of talking to convince her that other children would like to read them also and she would have to choose one. It is times like this that I wish we had a larger budget and, more importantly, more children as excited about reading as this child. One of our goals for the year is to see more children reading.

On Saturday, I learned that my 7-year old grandson had been named to the superintendent’s list at his school. I am so proud of him - and yes, he is a reader; and yes, Grandma buys him books as I do for my other grandchildren. I try to let them choose the books - that way I know they will read them.

Pea Ridge Community Library cookbooks still available, At just $5 each, these are a great bargain.

There are many tasty recipes from hometown cooks.

There are lots of good used books for sale in the library as well. Remember each book you purchase now is a book I won’t have to pack and move.

See you at the library.
