All-Star Rosters Released

Pea Ridge Blackhawk football coach Tony Travis will get one more chance to coach Blackhawk seniors Dayton Winn and Blake Roughton.

Travis was recently selected as the West All-Star football coach for the annual Arkansas High School Coaches Association All-Star Football Game. The game will be played in Conway in June and willfeature the best seniors in the state.

Winn and Roughton were both selected to play for the West team. Pea Ridge defensive coordinator Lafe Caton is a member of the West coaching staff.

“I couldn’t believe it when I heard; it’s going to be a fun week,” Travis said. “I told those guys, ‘We are going to do this one more time.’”

Travis said having Springdale High coach Shane Patrick, Pine Bluff coach Bobby Bolding and Greenbrier coachRandy Tribble on the staff has already been a big help.

“The process of selecting players is difficult because you have to have so many from each classification and only so many from each school,” Travis said.

“Then you have to find out who is going to play and who is not going to play.

“A lot of guys that are going on to play college football will already be enrolled in summer school. I am fortunate to have three coaches that have done this before.”

Winn rushed for about 2,220 yards this past season, and he will be joined by running backs Tearris Wallace of Bentonville and Jamie Smith of Camden Fairview.

Wallace rushed for 1,777 yards this past season, while Smith gained more than 1,500 yards for Class 5A state champion Camden Fairview.

“When you look down the roster, it is just loaded with good players,” Travis said. “It’s guys you read about in the paper every week.”
