Planners approve of Hoyt

Allowing for uniformity, Planning Commission members approved a variance requested by Dennis Turner for setback variances for a storage building he is constructing at 1299 North Curtis Avenue.

Turner said that he’d like to construct the building in line with others along the north-south alley on the west side of his property. The construction will not involve moving any utilities, he told planners.

In other business, planners elected Matt Powers chairman, Dr.

Karen Sherman as the vice chairman and Al Fowler as the secretary of the Planning Commission. They also interviewed Zachary Hoyt for the term vacated by Stephanie Kotouc. Planners agreed to recommend him to City Council members for appointment.

Hoyt, a native of Rogers, spent much of his life in Harrison and has lived in Pea Ridge for three years.

“I’d like to be a part ... I love the area and love to be a part of helping the city grow. I have a unique skill set, tend to do a lot of design and cooridnation,” Hoyt told planners.

“To me, a lot of the smaller cities are like an extension of the larger towns. Pea Ridge isn’t. It has its own unique identity. It’s not two steps away from being annexed into Rogers or Bentonville,” Hoyt said.

Hoyt is currently a project coordinator with Harrison, French and Associates in Bentonville, and has worked for Wal-Mart Store Inc. and CEI Engineering Inc.
