Library Notes: Time to order new library books

Happy New Year! Hope everyone has had a good holiday season. I made a trip to see my children and grandchildren but the forecast of snow caused us to cut our trip short.

Work is moving along smoothly at the building. Painting is complete and work will begin next week on the floor. Still much to be done but everything is coming together nicely.

The new library will open without the multipurpose room being completed. The original estimate to complete that room was $15,000. Most of that cost would be for adding a restroom. Since that building is sitting on a concrete slab, it will take considerable work to cut through the floor to connect to the sewer system. As soon as we can raise the money the work will be done.

With the thought of the big move to the new building in three months or less, we are starting to purge the fiction shelves of books that have not been checked out in the past five years. We will also begin packing some of the seasonal selections. We want to be organized and ready when the building is complete.

I realize it is easy to forget the due dates on library books during the holidays. We have a large number of books past due that I am hoping will be returned right away.

I brought home a number of book catalogs this weekend and hope to place orders for some new books next week. James Patterson’s new book, “Private Berlin,” will be released Jan. 21. I am really hoping to get some good non-fiction to add to our collection. By mid-January you should be able to check out some new publications.

See you at the library!
