Library Notes: New books ready for check out

Our very strange weather has sure played havoc with a lot of people’s scheduled events. And if the weather reports I have heard, it could happen again this week.

Hopefully, not enough to close schools and our library. I had planned to close last Wednesday when Pea Ridge Schools closed, but then the weather began to improve so I remained open until 5 p.m. Had a good number of patrons come by to pick up books “just in case.”

Wednesday morning I was happy to welcome two residents of Autumn Place and the activities director to the library. These very sweet ladies checked out some books and then headed back to Autumn Place for an exercise class. We are hoping to see more residents pay us a visit.

I apologize for not having a column last week. I had family in town and decided to spend as much time as I could with them as I only see them about four times a year.

Congratulations to the Pea Ridge Historical Society on their fund raiser. I did not attend the Soup Supper but heard the food was delicious and the turnout was good.

The library will be raffling a queen-size quilt soon.

Someone donated a brand new blender to the library for us to sell. Come by and take a look at these items.

Moving day is getting closer and the butterflies in my stomach are growing. So many details to take care of still. We are trying to locate a reasonably priced container for use as a drop box for returned books. The ones we have found so far range from $800 to $4,000 plus shipping. Any ideas on where we can find a less expensive one would be appreciated.

The library board and I wish to thank the anonymous donor who paid for the computerized system we will purchase for the new library. We also want to thank Century Tel for their grant to help cover the cost of internet and Wi-fi installations at the library. We are grateful to everyone who has generously contributed time, money and materials to make the new library a reality.

And I want to personally thank Darrell Wooldridge for repairing the library desk chair. It surely is nice to sit without sliding forward ortilting side-to-side!

I know that I recently wrote that I would not be getting any more new books in before the move, but I found some books at Sam’s on Friday and could not pass them up. By the time you read this there will be some new books available.

We have James Patterson’s “Alex Cross,” “Run, Daybreak” by Shelley Shepard Gray, “Forever After” by Deborah Raney, “The Fifth Assassin” by Brad Meltzer, “A Week in Winter” by Maeve Binchy, and “Seal Team Six - a Thomas Crocker Thriller” by Don Mann. There is also a new “Fancy Nancy Book” for the children; “The Colossus Rises” by Peter Lerangis for 8- to 12-year-olds, and the fourth book in James Patterson’s series “Witch & Wizard for teens - “The Kiss.”

We recently received a few donated books on the Civil War. While we are always pleased to receive fiction and non-fiction donations I would appreciate it you could hold your donations until we are in the new building.

See you at the library!
