Thursday, Feb. 15, 1973 Pea Ridge Graphic-Scene

During the meeting of the Pea Ridge Planning Commission, detailed engineering plans for South Park, a new subdivision in Pea Ridge, were presented by the developers, Dick and Dave Blumenthal of Rogers. The subdivision was inside the city limits, occupying the northeast corner at Davis and Harris Streets.

The Pea Ridge City Council discussed with a delegation of three residents of the Dogwood Addition on how they might get the streets of their part of town dedicated to the city in order that residents of that section might also have street lights.

Bob Burton was hired as Little Flock City Inspector.

Airman James O. Hatfield, son of Mrs. Veridene Hatfield of Pea Ridge, was assigned to Lowry AFB, Colo., after completing Air Force basic training.

Opening under new ownership in Pea Ridge was Sally’s Kozy “K” in the downtown area. Sally and Emil Schimek were the new owners.

Gateway Council members were Bill Schnitzer, Mike Shaw, Lida Schnitzer, Laverne Welch and Willie Galyen; secretary Elsie Galyen and Mayor Ada Walker.

After receiving a call from the state police reporting a dead donkey on U.S. Highway 62, the Pea Ridge office of the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department set to work digging a grave for the donkey along the rightof-way. In doing so, the telephone cable was cut resulting in no phone service for several hours.

Supplies were donated to the Volunteer Ambulance Service of Northeast Benton County by the NewMeadowbrook E.H. Club.

Supplies included nine sets of sheets, two cotton quilts, a sheet blanket, nine pillow cases, 17 slings, 46 cravats and bandages.

Pizza Hut of Pea Ridge was nationally recognized at the national Pizza Hut convention in New Orleans when it was awarded a plaque for a rating of eighth of all the Pizza Huts in the nation. The award was the first ever awarded to a Pizza Hut in Arkansas.

Mrs. Dedy Brock’s kindergarten class had fun learning to count to 100 - they made a house out of 100 cereal boxes.

Hundreds of families were without electricity in northeast Benton County following a storm that covered the area with as much as a foot of snow.

The first of five controlled burns was held at Pea Ridge National Military Park in an effort to encouraged the growth of hardwoods.

Students receiving Positive Action Awards at Garfield School were Holly Tisher and Tanisha Ward, kindergarten; Lindsey Nichols, second grade; and Serena Rothfus and Keven Turner, fifth grade.

Six inches of snow fellin Pea Ridge, causing slick roads.

Sarah Connolly of Avoca was presented a $100 savings bond for winning the statewide Safety Promotion Poster contest in the grade 4 to 6 category.

Dr. Karen Sherman bid on and won a pie baked by Hazel Walker at the Women’s Business Association of Pea Ridge First Annual Chili Supper and Pie Auction. The winning bid was $52.

Almost 75 residents of the Lost Bridge area met with 14 county officials to ask several questions about the paving and maintenance of area roads during a town hall meeting at Lost Bridge.
