Illness will not close school

Although absences at school were high two weeks ago, they were not high enough to justify closing school, according to school superintendent Rick Neal, who said guidelines recommend closing when absences are at 20 percent of the total school population.

“It’s a double-edged sword,”Neal said about closing school.

“We have to consider what the affect will be if we stay in and what the affect will be if we close,” he said noting that any days missed would be added to the calendar.

“We clean every night and disinfect,” he said, praising the work of the maintenance staff.

Neal said parents should certainly keep children home who are running a fever.
