Pea Ridge Graphic-Scene

The gas pump at Wright's Citgo Station in Pea Ridge was destroyed by fire. A truck slid on ice into the pump, the pump was knocked over and ignited. The driver of the truck drove away safely.

Tony Fletcher Jr. of Pea Ridge was the first person to announce his candidacy for the Pea Ridge School Board.

Pea Ridge had its first law firm open up. It housed two attorneys -- David Clinger and Howard Slinkard.

Pea Ridge Country Times

Jim Roe resigned as principal. He said he would remain the athletic director and basketball coach, because he could do both jobs effectively.

The Blackhawk salutes of the week went to coach Kathy Bunch and the senior girls team for its record of 5-3 and placing second in the Benton County tournament. They also saluted Lisa Marlow, the senior girls' team manager, and Kurt Higgins, the scorekeeper for both girls and boys teams.

Pea Ridge High School students listed in the 17th annual "Who's Who Among American High School Students" were Dani Dryden, Michelle Phillips, Debra Wilson, Sandra Escue and Danny Prophet.

Mark Jones, a Pea Ridge Blackhawk basketball player, was said to give a lot of good minutes on defense and on the boards; improving every week.

The Pea Ridge City Council agreed to help acquire easements to run utilities to the property Ron Buckman planned to purchase. He wanted to build a 200-unit apartment complex which would be located across from the city park.

Pea Ridge held the first parent night, which included a book fair, science experiments and art, offering opportunities for parents to learn about the various classes their students were in, as well as about clubs and different scholarship opportunities.

Jorge Keene was picked to the Class AA All-State football team. Seniors Cody Woodward, Shawn Woods and Casey Bridges, junior Ryan Barnett and sophomore Steven Woods were named 1AA part of the All-Conference team.

The Mosaic of Northwest Arkansas remodeled the old NAPA building downtown into their church building. They held an Christmas Celebration ceremony with songs of the season and discussing the religious meaning of the holiday.

The fifth-grade Pea Ridge Middle school teachers worked together on a holiday-themed units. English classes studied the novel The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. In math, they built gingerbread houses and discussed geometric shapes. Social studies classes researched holiday traditions around the world and science classes studied winter climates that involved glaciers, snow and ice.
