Library extends hours

The annual Christmas Open House at our beautifully decorated library provided an array of homemade cookies, candy and other baked goodies along with hot apple cider and flavored drinks for the kids on Dec. 18. Thanks to everyone who made all the delicious treats. It was very nice to visit with old friends and new.

Even with the party atmosphere all week, we were able to get a lot accomplished. We are adding DVDs and books and rearranging shelves. Soon you will find books by your favorite author numbered, color coded and arranged by series. This will not only make it easier for patrons to locate all books in a series but will help us determine what books to purchase.

The library is working with the primary school on a second-grade Reading Challenge in January. The students will be bussed to the school a couple of times during the month to spend some time reading. If you are the parent of a second grader and your family does not have a library card, please stop by the library to obtain one. Bring a piece of mail that shows your current address and your driver's license. It's just that easy and a great way to give your child the world at their fingertips at no cost!

January will also see the library open more hours each week. Monday and Tuesday we will be open from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m.; hopefully this will make it easier for parents and children to visit the library.

At the December meeting of the Library Board of Directors, we bid farewell to Kristie Towe and Jennifer Tillman-Wright who have served for a number of years. They have given countless hours to the library and its activities. Thank you ladies for a job well-done. We appreciate all you have done and we will miss you!

Wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas!
