Handgun involved

Little did Tyler Scott, of Pea Ridge, know that meeting a man to purchase an iPhone would result in staring down the barrel of a silver-colored handgun and loosing $500. On Feb 15, 2012, Scott, then 18, was a senior at Bentonville High School living in Pea Ridge. He purchased and resold iPhones, he told police.

Scott met a man he did not know at McDonalds in theparking lot.

He had contacted the man through Craigslist to purchase an iPhone 4S. The two men initially stood outside of Scott’s pickup truck, then both sat inside the cab of the truck so Scott “could check out the phone,” according to the police report. They agreed on $300 for the phone.

At that point, the black male who was purportedly selling the phone said “Give me all you got,” Scott told police. He pulled out a silver revolver. Scott gave the man the additional $200 he had, the man got out of the truck and ran around the back of McDonalds. Scott immediately called police.

The call came in at 8:25 p.m. Feb. 15, 2012.

Pea Ridge police o◊cers, including o◊duty o◊cers, responded immediately and followed several leads, but were unable to locatethe suspect that night. The phone “pinged” at a Fayetteville address.

About two weeks later, on March 5, there was a similar robbery at the Mc-Donalds in Lowell, police said.

On May 4, a warrant was issued for Tevin DeShawn Knight was was then in Vian, Okla. Knight turned himself in to Benton County Sheri◊’s O◊ce on May 7.

Knight was convicted this week and sentenced to 12 years.

“I believe that justice has been served,” Pea Ridge Police Chief Tim Ledbetter said. “We don’t typically have things like this happen in our town. Many o◊cers came out that night and worked over the following weeks pursuing leads.

There was a cooperative effort with other law enforcement agencies as similar crimes were committed in Van Buren and Lowell.”
