Summer story hour ends at library

Last Wednesday was the last Summer Story Hour with Ms. Beth. She did an outstanding job with her stories and crafts with the kids. There were 75 children enrolled for the program. But not all of them attended each week. Even with our larger children’s area I am not sure we would have been able to accommodate that many children and parents. I thank Beth from the bottom of my heart for giving most of her summer to the library.

We wish her the best as she begins her last year at Tech.

Plans are underway to have a Fall/Winter Story Hour beginning Wednesday, Sept. 4. The hours will remain the same - 10:30 a.m.- 11:30 a.m. Registration forms will be available at the library beginning Aug.

We have been in our new building five crazy, hectic, busy, wonderful months and I love it more eachday. It has evolved into so much more than we had envisioned. Two people have expressed an interest in taking the three-hour literacy training class. As soon as that happens, the library quiet room can be turned into a classroom for an hour or more each week to help area residents learn to read. My dream will come true when the fi rst class meets.

New adult, teen and children’s books are being added each week. We just purchased James Patterson’s latest, “Mistress,”and “Hot Shot,” the latest thriller from Julie Garwood which looks like a good read. The latest spy novel by Daniel Silva - “The English Girl” - is getting good reviews from our patrons.

Stephanie Meyer’s “Twilight” Series is still very popular with our teen readers as are books by L. J. Smith, author of “The Vampire Diaries.”

Chapter books are in great demand by the younger set. “Goosebumps,” “The Magic School Bus” and “The Magic Tree House” books continue to be popular.

Many people are using the computers and we are happy to have them.

However, I need to remind you to read the Rules for Computer Usage posted in the library. Unfortunately I do not have time to assist computer users. Please remember that you may not download anything to the computer nor do we allow you to “fix” a problem with any computer. The library is fortunate to have a volunteer on Tuesday evenings who “cleans” the computers - i.e. removes anything that has beendownloaded, etc. If you use a computer to access your email or place an order for something, don’t forget to log o◊.

I can’t end this column without saying thank you to everyone who shares their wonderful homegrown produce with me! It is delicious and I am enjoying all of it. Fresh tomatoes, cucumbers and onions in a salad, squash, green beans, corn on the cob - nothing better. My cardiologist and I thank you!

See you at the library!
