Lady ’Hawks take 4th in classic

Pea Ridge Lady ’Hawks placed fourth in the Ozark Softball Classic in Harrison, March 29-30.

The Ozark Classic is a good tournament because it gives the Lady ’Hawks the chance to play teams they wouldn’t normally play because of classification and/or distance, according to coach Josh Reynolds.

Pea Ridge was the second smallest school at the tournament behind Nemo Vista. Everyone else was 5A or higher.

Game 1 vs. Wynne Pea Ridge 8, Wynne 6

Junior Kaylee Laster got the win.

“Kaylee threw very well against one of the better offensive teams we will see this year. She did a great job hitting spots and mixing up speeds,” said head coach Josh Reynolds.

Jerika Schooley got the save.

“We put Jerika in a tight spot at the end of the game and she made big pitches in key spots to get the job done. The game against Wynne was our best defensive performance so far this year,” Reynolds said.

Offensive highlights included: Auti Galvan with a double, walk and hit by pitch with 1 run scored; and Jerika Schooley with two RBIs.

Pea Ridge had seven different players with runs scored.

Game 2 vs. Nemo Vista Nemo Vista 5, Pea Ridge 0

According to coach Reynolds, “Wahrmunell (Nemo Vista’s pitcher) did a great job mixing up speeds and working both sides of the plate. She made it difficult on our hitters all game long.”

Offensive highlight was Abbye Coan with one hit. Game 3 vs. Cabot Cabot 8, Pea Ridge 2

“Cabot hit it where we weren’t. They only had two hard hit balls. They are a very quick team and very aggressive on the bases. They will be one of the quickest teams we see all year long,” Reynolds said.

Offensive highlights included: Kendall Young and Kaylee Laster both had a RBI; Stephanie Wood started the rally in the fourth inning with a lead off single; and Auti Galvan and Stephanie Wood both had 1 run score.

Pea Ridge Lady ’Hawks will play three conference games this week: Monday, April 1, at home against Gentry, Tuesday, April 2, at Gravette (rain out from last week) and Thursday, April 4, at Ozark. All games start at 5 p.m. The team will play at 4:30 p.m.

Friday, April 5, at Siloam against the Siloam Springs Panthers.
