Two vie for council seat

— Two people are seeking one City Council seat in Pea Ridge.

Steve Guthrie has filed for reelection for the seat to which he was appointed last year.

Mitzi Warner Taylor has also filed for the seat.

Guthrie, 46, has been in Pea Ridge since 1996 and on the Pea Ridge Volunteer Fire and Ambulance departments. He owns and operates Guthrie Heating and Air. He has two grown children, both of whom graduated from PRHS.

“I want to have input in our city business and want to help better our town,” Guthrie said, adding that he believes what he has learned in running a business helps him evaluate city business.

“I like working with people. I’ve learned that there is a lot of work pushed on cities by state regulations.”

Taylor, 43, moved to Pea Ridge from Eureka Springs her junior year of high school. She graduated from Pea Ridge High School in 1987. She is the daughter of Sula and Chuck Arnold. She and her husband, Rodger Taylor, have five children: Jason Taylor, 19; Dakota Hollingsworth, 18; Morgen Pack,16; Tessa Pack, 13; and Caley Hightower, 6. She said the youngest three children attend Pea Ridge schools and that Dakota graduated from PRHS last year. She is a business planning analyst for Strategic Partners in Bentonville, a supplier to Wal-Mart. She said this is her second week on that job.

She earned her bachelor’s degree from John Brown University and her masters (via satellite) from Webster University.

“I’m from here and I love the city. I wanted to know what can I do for my town that I love. I’m all for a better quality of life, what can we do for our kids? They need more options, more things to do,” she said.

“I just want them to know, I want to be the voice of our town.

What they think and what their opinions are matters. It’s all about the citizens, not about me and my personal agenda,” she said.

The election is Nov. 6.
