Pea Ridge’s new park was named the “Pea Ridge Day” Municipal Park. The park was named after Clyde “Pea Ridge” Day, a Pea Ridge man who became nationally famous as a baseball pitcher in both the minor and major leagues.

Henry Davis of Rt. 1, Seligman, Mo., reported to the Benton County authorities that someone had shot and killed a horse belonging to him on his property.

An “Old Timers Football Game” was scheduled as a benefit game to raise funds with which the Blackhawk Boosters expected to purchase a scoreboard and clock for the Pea Bowl.

The Garfield City Council voted to raise voluntary tax from two mills to five during their regular monthly meeting.

Garfield’s Town Council voted its second $500 contribution to the Volunteer Ambulance Service of Northeast Benton County.

Mayor Dennis Mitchell explained to the council that he felt it was time to help VAS again since it was close to being operational.

Pea Ridge’s sewer project was 40 percent complete according to Brian Gartside, representative of the consulting engineers.

The Pea Ridge City Council meeting was interrupted when Dean Messer burst into the council room saying there was need for the Pea Ridge Ambulance because of an accident.

Alderman Jerry Collinsrushed to the scene where a child had been hit by a car.

The City of Pea Ridge filed suit against the owner of property in the city to force the removal of condemned buildings on the property. The property belonged to R.C. Miller.

Garfield Postmaster Gary Blackburn returned to duty at the local post office after a six-month assignment as acting supervisor of Mails and Delivery at Springdale.

Johnnie W. Weiser, son of Jimmy and Katherine Weiser of Garfield, reported for active duty with the U.S. Army.

Darrell Waterman of Pea Ridge suffered burns on his chest and back after coming in contact with powerlines. He was working on top of a house that was being moved by a moving company.

The Buss Stop on U.S.

Hwy. 62 in Garfield was closed. Gary Buss, owner of the Buss Stop, would not comment on his reasons for closing the business.

Gateway Mayor Lida Schnitzer said the City Council authorized the purchase of a $1,500 Dell computer with software, printer, fax and scanner for the city office.

Nina Pinto, seventhgrader, earned a bronze medal at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock Trojan Invitational. Pinto competed with more than 100 runners in the seventh through ninth grades.
