City Marshal Al Koenke submitted a letter of resignation. Koenke’s duties dated back to 1949.

The Pea Ridge School Board met for monthly session, which lasted five hours. A total of 14 high school students sought the board’s permission to leave classes at various times from noon to the seventh period in order to work at jobs they held down or at jobs they were seeking.

Mrs. Glyn Lenoir, director of the Pea Ridge Youth Center prior to its closing, told the GRAPHIC that the youth center fund still contained $702.03 which she would like to pass along to the new city park fund.

The new five-acre park was being established as a city-owned park by the Pea Ridge Little League.

A sudden lightning, rain and wind storm hit Pea Ridge country. Power outages and downed trees kept area emergency services busy.

Volunteer Ambulance Service of Northeast Benton County board summarized the status of the service’s organization and concluded that another minimum of $3,000 in contributions were needed before the service could become operational.

A neighborhood watch program including a patrol of the Brush Creek area by residents was established.

The Franklin Miller family of Pea Ridge was chosen as the Farm Family of the Year from Benton County.

Patrolman David Fellows was announced as Pea Ridge’s newest addition to the police force.

20 Years Ago Thursday, Sept. 3, 1992 The TIMES of Northeast Benton County

School superintendent Marvin Higginbottom said that 824 students were in classrooms on the Pea Ridge School campus, far above the number he had forecasted weeks before.

A fire was reported at Harding’s One Stop at Codling’s Corner. Firefighters from Avoca, Pea Ridge, Little Flock and NEBCO responded to the blaze at U.S. Highway 62 and Arkansas Highway 72.

The building was heavily damaged.

Cleva Douglas of Gateway was digging through a trunk she inherited from her mother and discovered two letters that described to some degree life at the time in Oklahoma Indian Territory.

Emergency medical technicians from VAS that attended the state EMS conference included Becki Schnitzer, Mandy Tedford, Jana Fisher, Evelyn Herman, Gail Short, Teri Martin Peggy Jines, Lida Schnitzer, Veleta Morrison, Brad Short, Phil Herman and Zannie Morrison.

10 Years Ago Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2002 The TIMES of Northeast Benton County

Bearing bottles of orange-colored water and a bag of rust-tinted clothing, Mildred Hicks of N. Davis Street in Pea Ridge confronted the City Council about the quality of her city water. Water and Sewer superintendent Robert Button explained the lines in many parts of town were steel pipes installed in the 1950s and 1960s which had rust in them. It was an aesthetic problem, but not a health risk.

The four-man scramble team of Jerry Fitzner, Kurtis Greene, Tim Owens and Clark Tyndall tallied a winning score of 63 to finish at nine-under-par and placed first at the Ninth Annual Pea Ridge Golf Classic at Elk River Country Club in Noel, Mo.
