Library Notes: Story hour to combine trick or treating

The library is ready for Halloween fun! The participants in the weekly Story Hour will make trick or treat bags on Wednesday and then go trick or treating at the businesses near the library. From 5 - 7 p.m.

the library will be giving out treats. Looking forward to seeing all the kids in costumes! Thanks to the Library Board members for helping get the library ready for the fun.

As I left the library Saturday afternoon, I was driving south on Curtis Avenue and saw a number of vehicles and people in the parking lot of the new library building. When I stopped I found Pea Ridge Lions Club members hard at work removing the old landscaping in front of the building. I was speechless (and for me that is unusual!). What a wonderful job they have done. Everything has been removed along with old gravel, etc. Landscape plastic will be laid down and in the spring the work will continue. How do you say “thank you” to them for taking on such a project and then just going quietly about with no fanfare? I just don’t have the words to express the appreciation the members of the Library Board and I feel so, I guess we will just say “thank you.” The Lions Club is such a wonderful organization and does such good works in this community. Please, when you see a Lions Club member, tell them how much you appreciate them - better yet, become a Lions Club member. When they told me they have food at their meetings, they had me.

There will be lots of new books on the shelves this week - adult fiction and non-fiction, children’s fiction and a few non-fiction and some teen books. I am pleased that we are getting requests for non-fiction and we will do our best to get some of those books in the library. I will try to get a list of some of our new books on Facebook. Assoon as we put away the Halloween books in the children’s room, we will be putting out the Thanksgiving reads.

Library cards are free at the Pea Ridge Community Library to anyone over 18. All that is required is a valid driver’s license or state issued photo I.D., and a piece of mail such as a utility bill that shows your current address. Cards are issued one to a family.

Books are checked out for two weeks at a time. There is a 20 cents per day, per book late fee and library privileges are suspended until books are returned and fines paid. If you lose or damage a book then you will be required to pay for a replacement copy. Call me at 451-8442 if you have any questions.

At our last Library Board meeting we voted to increase the cost of making copies at the library to 25 cents for black and white and 30 cents for color. We have held off on this for some time but cost of ink and paper makes this necessary.

a tub on the bench in front of the library with a sign that reads “Free Books.” For a short time we will be giving away books - some have been donated and others have been removed from our shelves. Books for sale are still being offered inside the library including the library cookbook. The cookbooks are new and only $5 a copy. In addition to cookbooks we have a few new paperback Westerns and a few new Christian fiction hardbacks.

Shop early to get the best buys. All money from the book sales are going toward getting the library moved into the new building.

Thanks again to the Lions Club members and everyone else who is giving money, time or materials to make the new library a reality. Contact me at the library, Tony Townsend at City Hall or the mayor if you want to help out.

See you at the library!
