Crescent Hotel History

Artist Sean Fitzgibbon will present a program entitled, “The Crescent Hotel: The Norman Baker Years, Documented as a Graphic Novel,” at noon Wednesday, Oct. 17, at the Shiloh Museum of Ozark History.

Fitzgibbon and writer Kevin Brown are collaborating to create a graphic novel set at the historic Crescent Hotel in Eureka Springs in 1938 and 1939, the years the hotel was turned into a hospital under the direction of Norman Baker, a “doctor” claiming to have a cure for cancer. “Though the hotel is known to harbor ghostsof nurses pushing wheelchairs and patients walking the halls at night, nothing in the Crescent’s 123-year history is more bizarre than the events that took place between these two years when the hotel was converted into a cancer clinic,” said Fitzgibbon.

Fitzgibbon will be explaining the process of creating a documentary graphic novel and discuss the steps including research, story development, layout to putting it all together to create an intriguing visual experience of what he describes as “one of the most unusual chapters in the history of Eureka Springs.” Railway Society
