A horse on Rt. 1, Pea Ridge wore a cast on her left front leg as the result of an accident in Pea Ridge.

Pea Ridge Police Chief Ron Towle, who investigated the accident, said that the mare suffered a broken leg when the two-unit trailer in which she was being hauled, broke loose from the 1965 Chevrolet pickup pulling it, went over the end of a culvert and turned over in the fencing at the Jack Musteen home on Ark. Hwy. 72 east.

New officers for the Sugar Creek 4-H Club were Jordon Miser, president; Mike Knox, vice president; Viola Miser, secretary; Bobby Bland, reporter; John Terry, photographer; David Miser, chaplain;

Phillip Miser, song leader;

Johnny Weston, recreation leader; and LeeAnn Weston, historian.

Mrs. Eva Nickerson, founder and the former owner of the Pea Ridge Cafe, announced that she and Mrs.

Thetta Mayfield have purchased the cafe. Mrs. Nickerson operated the business for four years before selling it to Mr. and Mrs. J.S. Anderson.

A four-pound sweet potato was harvested by Lindsay Meisers who lived on Hayden Road.

Over 115 people attended the public hearing of the Gateway Area Rural Water Assoc. with representatives of the Arkansas Soil and Water Conservation Commission.

A $1,000 gift from Alta and Gary Campbell brought the Volunteer Ambulance Service of Northeast Benton County nearer operational status.

The Gateway town council acted to have a bridge in town repaired and expressed appreciation for work done on the town hall premises.

Volunteers canvassed Pea Ridge neighborhoods during the Pea Ridge United Fund residential drive. The result of the drive exceeded $700.

A special Pea Ridge School Board meeting was conducted to hear Gary Jackson of Hight-Jackson Architectural firm present a revised plan for an addition to the Elementary School.

The revised blueprint would add two more classrooms.

The Pea Ridge Blackhawks’ air-tight defense heldShiloh Christian to just 40 yards in the 38-0 drubbing of the Saints. It was the sixth consecutive shutout for the Blackhawks in six outings.

FFA held an ice cream social and elected Randy Williams as student advisor.

Pvt. Shelley R. Rusher, daughter of Hartsall and Rose Rusher of Garfield, completed the patriot missile crew member course at Fort Bliss, Texas.

The Pea Ridge Schools were back in the black, according to reports presented at the school board meeting by Superintendent of Schools Virgil Freeman.

After dissolving its standing planning commission earlier in the year, the Garfield City Council appointed four planners to a new commission. David Nees, Karma Nees, Lonnie Cameron and Rick Zinc were appointed.

A new, historically accurate fence surrounds the Elkhorn Tavern at Pea Ridge National Military Park, after 250 volunteers spent their day rebuilding the old one.

Lost Bridge Village Resort was purchased by Bob and Joyce Bauer.

More than 5,000 people filled Pea Ridge City Park to capacity and overflowing for the 14th annual Pea Ridge Mule Jump, making promoters consider finding a larger venue for next year.
