PEA RIDGE — The ’Hawks’ big victory over the Ozark Hillbillies boosted them seventh place in the state’s top 10 4A football teams as compiled by the MaxPreps-Freeman/CBS Football Poll.
The victory dropped Ozark to 10th, the ’Hawks’ previous rating. The state’s number one team, the Prairie Grove Tigers, remain in the top spot as they kept their record unblemished by pounding Berryville 48-0 last week.
This week will be seedings week as there are three games that will go a long way to settle who will get what seed among the five 4A-1 teams that will go on to compete in the playoffs.
First, of course, will be the Prairie Grove/Pea Ridge matchup with the winner grabbing sole possession of first place. With but two weeks left in the season and with the games on the schedule, the winner Friday will most likely wind up with the top seed from the district.
Farmington just got by Gravette 34-27 last week with the Cardinals battling Ozark this week. Ozark winning will virtually eliminate 3-1 Farmington from having a shot at No. 1 and will likely give the Hillbillies the No. 3 seed, with fourth falling to the loser.
A Cardinal victory will give them a chance at No. 1 should Pea Ridge prevail over Prairie Grove as they host Pea Ridge next week.
The fifth and last seed willlikely be decided this Friday with Lincoln and Gravette facing one another. Lincoln bombed Gentry 35-14 last week.
In a game concerning former 4A-1 member Shiloh, the Goblins of Harrison shook off their winless record to deal the Springdale bunch a 14-10 setback. The loss pretty much eliminates Shiloh from a playoff berth and they still have two powerhouse teams (Alma and Greenbrier) left on their schedule. They are currently 2-5.
