Library Notes: Congressman Womack’s office gives books to Pea Ridge library

The past week had some high and lows for the library. We found out there is an issue with the old water pipes under the new library building so that means an unexpected expenditure to resolve that issue. The good part of that problem is that it was discovered now rather than after the renovations were completed when it would have been far more costly to remedy! Thanks to Tony and Corey for being on top of things, as usual!

We had great fun handing out treat bags to the children on Halloween. There was a variety of costumes and everyone was polite.

Perhaps we can expand what we do for Halloween next year in the new building.

A few weeks back when I attended a “Coffee with Congressman Steve Womack” gathering at City Hall. Congressman Womack and I discussed the possibility of our library receiving surplus booksfrom the Library of Congress. I gave his aide the library e-mail address and the next day was contacted by someone in his office asking what types of books we would like. I replied immediately that we would take anything on the Civil War, Arkansas, genealogy, addictions and Attention Deficient Disorder, Autism, etc. This week we received 37 hardback and paperback books with a promise of more to come shortly. We have had several requests for books on these subjects. The books are being processed and will be available shortly for checkout. We are very grateful to the congressman for his assistance.

In an earlier column I had mentioned a man from California had comein and purchased one of the library cookbooks and planned to use some recipes from it on his youtube.com cooking show, “Cooking With Jack.” On Saturday I watched the segment in which he prepared Chunky Beef and Pork Chili - a recipe submitted to our cookbook by Louise David.

During the show, Jack said he had visited his father in Pea Ridge and said the town is about the size of a postage stamp and full of very nice people! He plans to use more recipes out of the book on future segments. If you don’t have access to a computer and would like to see this piece, come by the library and I’ll access it for you. He really liked the chili!

The members of the Library Board are planning something special for the kids for Christmas. Watch this column, our Facebook page or come by the library for more details.

I was able to get out andgo to some garage sales on Friday and Saturday. I met some really nice people and purchased a few books for the library. I agree with Jack - Pea Ridge is full of very nice people!

Lots of new books on the shelves in the children’s room this week. There are several new books for the adults as well. There are some really good books for sale - stock up now so you will have plenty to read when winter hits.

Wednesday Story Hour at the library wraps up Nov. 14.

See you at the library!
