Sen. Boozman honors Wentz

— David Wentz has a formula for success in his Pea Ridge Chemistry class. The high school teacher received the National Math and Science Initiative (NMSI) All American Teacher of the Year Award at a ceremony in Washington, recognizing his dedication to students and the teaching profession.

“It is wonderful to get this award and be recognized. But it’s best to be a part of this program and see change in my students’ lives. It has given them far more confidence than they ever had,”Wentz said.

The All American Teacher of the Year recognizes outstanding math, science and English teachers in the NMSI Advanced Placement Training and Incentive Program.

U.S. Senator John Boozman congratulated Wentz on his accomplishment during his trip to the nation’s capital to receive the award.

“David has proven himself as remarkable leader in the classroom. We can all be encouraged by his efforts as he prepares our children for the challenges of the future and works to inspireour next generation of leaders,” Boozman said.

Wentz is one of three Arkansas teachers to receive this top honor. Shiloh Harder, a Calculus teacher at Conway High School, and John Havel, a language teacher at Wilbur Mills High School, also received the All American Teacher of the Year.

“These teachers have demonstrated a total commitment to their students’ academic growth and are truly role models for the other teachers participating in NMSI’s programs,” Mary AnnRankin, president and CEO of NMSI said. “Their efforts continue to drive impressive results by their students and inspire other teachers.”

The awards were given to one teacher each in AP math, science and English from seven states that participate in the AP training and incentive programs.
