Library Notes: Books about Ozarks in library

— It does not seem possible that another week has flown by. This has been an incredibly busy week at the library. Several people have stopped by or called to get information on the Story Hour and the Summer Reading Program. I am pleased to have so much interest in the library and our programs.

The Cannonball 4-H Club made some very neat signs for our quilt raffle and put them around town for us.

Thanks, kids, for a job well done. Thanks to everyone who has stopped by and purchased tickets. We still have lots of tickets available.

John Sanford’s latest book, “Stolen Prey,” finally arrived this week. Of course, it was checked outas soon as it hit the shelf.

Let me know if you want to be placed on the reserve list.

We always check the donated books for anything dealing with this area, the Ozarks in general and of course, the Civil War. Recently we received a couple of really interesting books about the Ozarks. “The Ozarks - the American Wilderness” published in 1974 by Time-Life books has some great scenic photographs. “Hills of Home - The Rural Ozarks” is another mid-’70s publication by Roger Minick contains photographs and etchings of a life-style little changed in the years between 1875 and 1975.

A 2012 publication titled “Self-Sufficiency On A Shoestring” provides detailed practical information about self-sufficiency on a budget, including: Successfully working from home;

Trading, gifting and bartering; Making-do-and-mending; Lifestyle adjustments;

Creating your own power;

and Growing and storing your own food. For some of us “old-timers” this concept is nothing new. Some of us have done this at other times in our lives.

I hope to be able to visit Barnes and Noble over thislong weekend but that may not happen. One of my sons and his son will be visiting for the weekend and my grandson is much more interested in going to the game places than to the bookstore with grandma!

Hope you all have a safe and enjoyable holiday weekend.

See you at the library!
