RECOLLECTIONS: 40 Years Ago Thursday, May 25, 1972 Pea Ridge Graphic

— Pea Ridge School superintendent Andrew Widener presented the Dr. Lee O. Greene Memorial Plaque. Contributions made in the name of Lee O. Greene helped provide the Pea Ridge High School Science Lab.

Senior high cheerleaders for the 1972-73 school term at Pea Ridge High School were elected by the student body. They included: Geraldean Glasscock, cocaptain; Karen Gilchrist, first alternate; Barbara Webb, co-captain; Marie Arnold; Janet Johnson;

Ruth Arnold; and Yvonna Shrader.

Junior High Cheerleaders elected by the student body with the judging based on coordination and ability to learn cheers were Mary Hambrick;

Cheryl Wilks; Geneva Morgan, alternate; Jane Dalton; Kim Webb, captain; Cindy Dalton; and Cindy Hall.

30 Years Ago Wednesday, May 26, 1982 Pea Ridge Country Times

Acting Avoca Mayor/ Recorder Diane Bowen, administered the oath of office to the new mayor, former alderman, Donna Singleton and new aldermen Dale Kroll and Kathy Trotter.

The Pea Ridge Chamber of Commerce directors reelected Jack Beisner and Wayne Ellington to the board and elected Charles Mitchell to replace Alva Lee Johnson, whose term had expired.

The National Achievement Academy announced that Cecil (Eugene) Weston and James E.

Weston, sons of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Weston,Pea Ridge, were named 1982 United States National award winners in mathematics.

Lauri Robbins, Garfield 4-H club, placed first place in the Northwest District BBQ contest.

The first two graduates of Gateway Chapel Academy, Gateway, were De Ann Wutschke and Bill Cathcart.

20 Years Ago Thursday, May 28, 1992 The TIMES of Northeast Benton County

Pea Ridge High School graduated 30 seniors. Salutatorian was Valarie Hook.

Valedictorian was Bryan Hook.

Pea Ridge applied for funding to help pay for a new water tower. The application was for $681,000, the estimated cost of building the water tower.

Entech Corp. of Idaho announced that Mark Ottinger of Pea Ridge was the first distributor of Entech products, a chemical additive to lubricants such as oils, greases and other fluids, in the area.

Garfield First Baptist Church welcomed its new pastor, Al Gebauer.

10 Years Ago Wednesday, May 29, 2002 The TIMES of Northeast Benton County

Pea Ridge water rates increased 10 cents per gallon to absorb the cost of the Benton-Washington County Rural Water Authority, better known as Two-Ton.

Receiving Dale Carnegie certificates were: Tim Ledbetter, police chief;

Bob Kitterman, ambulance director; Jackie Crabtree, mayor; Darrell VanRoekel, building official; Robert Button, water/sewer superintendent; David Guyll, street supervisor; and Sandy Easley, court clerk.

An object reported to be a pipe bomb in Avoca turned out to be a lookalike containing a used medical syringe. The suspected pipe bomb was found in the back of a pickup truck at 62 Automotive.
