Library Notes: Time for reading this summer?

— Hasn’t the weather been wonderful the few weeks?

Just makes you want to be outside working in the yard or garden. But, according to the forecast, this Memorial Day weekend will bring some much warmer temperatures. Guess it is time to turn on the A/C, stop by the library and get a good book, find a comfortable spot in your home and read.

We have had some really good books donated lately - a lot of craft books - quilting, crochet, painting to name a few. We also have a number of children’s books and some good adult fiction in paperback and hardback. Approximately two dozen books dealing with angels have been donated. All are in very good condition - probably only read once. In fact, we now have so many donatedbooks that I am not able to accept any more donations for a while. We appreciate all the donations and hope to announce a book sale shortly. Until then, we have some books in boxes outside the library, as well as some books inside the library, for sale at ridiculously cheap prices.

Plans are underway for the Summer Reading Program that will begin the first week in July. Participation is open to children in kindergarten through fifth grade. A prize will be awarded to the child reading the most books in their age group. There will be a party for all participantswith gift bags for all. Come by the library for more details.

We now have a volunteer for the Summer Story Hour which begins June 7. This will be held in the children’s room at the library from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. each Thursday until school starts. That will give the children half an hour to find books to check out before the library closes at noon for lunch. We are hoping for a good turnout.

I want to thank our patrons who are donating money to the library. We so appreciate our patrons and their donations. These folks have been strong supporters of the Pea Ridge Community Library for a long time - some from the start of the library. We do appreciate your continued support.

Congratulations to allthe graduating seniors and their parents. What an exciting and also scary time for the graduates. We wish you much success in all that you do.

And we wish you a safe and happy Memorial Day.

Please remember this is more than just a day off or a day at the lake - please take a few minutes to remember what this day is really about.

See you at the library!
