Police ticket peddlers

— Door-to-door salesmen have been telling residents there has been an increase in break-ins in town. That is not true, according to police.

This past week, several residents called police asking about purported burglaries in town, said Police Chief Tim Ledbetter.

Apparently, the salesmen, who represent a security company, have been telling residents that there have been burglaries in the area.

“They’ve been giving false information,” Ledbetter said. “If anyone comes to your door uninvited and you feel uncomfortable, call us.”

The salesmen are from out of state, they’re very persistent, ask personal information and attempt to gain entrance intohomes, police said. Upon investigation, police found two salesmen who did not have a city business license and advised them to purchase a license.

Several days later, the men were located in town again selling without a license.

Police cited Christopher Charles Lee, 28, andRobert Thomas Clyde, 26, both of Washington state for violation of the city ordinance governing doorto-door sales.

Ledbetter said the city ordinance requires salesmen to provide identification and business information to City Hall to purchase a temporary license.
