Students commended for art work

— Young students were applauded for their many awards in art by Pea Ridge School Board members Sandy Button, Jenny Wood, Darin Wright and Joshua Ramsey at Monday’s regular meeting. The youth led the Pledge of Allegiance to start the meeting and were then presented certificates by art teacher John McGee.

“I’m very impressed with the quality of the art in our buildlings,” Dr. Roland Smith, interim superintendent, said. “Fine arts is very important to me. We’re grateful for the supportive parents.”

The board approved creating four stipends for $850 each providing for a technology support person in each of the four buildings.

In the construction report, the board was informed that all is going well with the new IntermediateSchool and the remodel of the old gym. A batting cage will be put in the old gym.

In other business, the board:

◊Approved allowing two people in each building to be trained to give shots in absence of the school nurse.

◊Approved hiring Samuel Finley and Kenneth Greene as bus drivers; Belinda Ward and Carol Hughes as custodians; Cameron Thompson, Chase Thetford, Russell Abraham and Charles Holliday as summer custodial help; Jen Ockinga, high school math; Nicholas McCurry, middle school math; Becca Jackson, seventh-grade science; Allison Johnson, seventh-grade literacy;

Sue Stacy, special education supervisor; Amanda Coco and Courney Powell, speech pathologists; Nancy Henson, tehnology specialist; and Robyn Scott, food service.

◊Approved transfers of Mindy Bowlin from Intermediate Schoolto Primary School, Megan Hussain from Primary to Intermediate, Jessica Wood from Middle School toHigh School.

◊Approved changes recommended by the State School BoardAssociation to Classified Employee Policy, Student Policy and Certified Employee Policy.
