Storm causes power outage

— GATEWAY - About 400 Carroll Electric customers were without power most of Tuesday, May 1, after a storm blew down a tree which broke three electric poles, according to Nancy Plagge, communicationsdirector for Carroll Electric Cooperative Service.

“Three poles along Gann Ridge and U.S. Highway 62 were broken. There was no way to back feed,” Plagge said, adding that extra men and equipment were needed to repair the lines.

Power was expected to be restored by 3 p.m ., according to Plagge.

Gateway Mayor David White said power came back on at 4:12 p.m. at his house on Arkansas Highway 37 north of the intersection with U.S. Highway 62.

“It wasn’t too bad,” White said. “I have a generator so I plugged in therefrigerator and freezer to make sure not to lose food.

Not everyone has one.”

Plagge said because of the location of the poles, it was a time-consuming process. She said a “track digger” had to be brought in.

“We really regret the power outage,” Plagge said.
