— 40 Years Ago Thursday, March 16, 1972

The Benton County Historical Society presented a new cap stone for the Confederate monument to the Pea Ridge National Military Park.

The cap replaced the one that had been missing an infinitely long time from the monument.

Carl Yates, of McGoodwin, Williams and Yates, Inc., appeared before the council to discuss the city’s present sewer system and proposed an expansion for the present system.

L.C. Barnett, Jr., was elected to the School Board. He received an unofficial 213 votes compared to 67 votes for Jim Schumacher and 37 votes for Cecilia (Sally) Green.

Little Flock City Council met and discussed road construction, specifically North 13th Street. The Beaver Water District came under discussion again and since several residents expressed a desire for water to be piped into the town, a meeting was planned for a representative to talk to the people of Little Flock.

30 Years Ago Wednesday, March 17, 1982

EPA approved Pea Ridge a sewer grant of $260,800 so the city could complete the entire sewer project as originally drawn and bid on by contractors. The equipment was already in place to begin the project of building the new treatment facility.

Elected to the VAS board of directors were returning members Gary Campbell, Jim Campbell and Bill Sivley, and new members Lanette Tillman, Bill Abrams, Dr. Lowell Barr and Gail Johnson.

Pea Ridge city council agreed to buy a 6-cylinder No.112 Caterpillar road grader for $6,000.

County Judge Al Norwood worked out an agreement with the state Game and Fish Commission which could mean the paving of Indian Creek Road at no cost to the county, but another Pea Ridge Country road, Lee Town Road between Arkansas Hwy. 94 in Pea Ridge and Arkansas Hwy.

72 east of Pea Ridge, may have to wait for upgrading.

20 Years Ago Thursday, March 19, 1992

Ozark Public Transit expanded its demand-response service to include the Rogers/Bentonville area. Taunya Kopke, transit director, said that the bus has a scheduled trip to the Pea Ridge area every Tuesday.

Seventeen Pea Ridge High School students reached outto sixth graders in an effort to help prepare them for the social decisions they will have to make in the years ahead. The program, called Responsible Educated Adolescents Can Help, or REACH, is part of the Teen Connection Program of Youth Bridge in Fayetteville.

Five Pea Ridge sorority members were named a Certified Volunteer of America by Epsilon Sigma Alpha International, Shelby Knapp, Dorothy Williams, Ruth Talburt, Virgie Hazelton and Mary Jane Pistole, all members of Beta Alpha Sorority.

January Wagner, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dale Wagner of Pea Ridge, was the firstplace winner in junior classical instrumental in the annual 4-H Talent Contest held at Rogers High School Auditorium.

Bids on Garfield’s transmission line south of the city on Arkansas Hwy. 127, which would connect the new Two-Ton transmission line, needed to be rebid or changed, according to engineer Jerry Martin. Martin said the bids had come in higher than budgeted.

Pastor Tim Wallace opened the New Life Fellowship Church on Weston Street, after the lease ran out on the building the church was using in Rogers.

Meagan Cecil, fifth grade, and Savannah Vinson, sixth grade, placed first in the Hoops for Heart Shootout at Pea Ridge Middle School. Kyle Brown was the top money raiser, raising $125.02.
