Oldebeken honored

— Blackhawk Zach Oldebeken was awarded the Brandon Burlsworth award recently, according to head football coach Tony Travis.

Each year every high school football program in Arkansas nominates one player from their team to receive the Brandon Burlsworth award for good moral character and a desire to excel in the class room. This award recognizes the student athlete who puts his or her team first and is not looking to just draw attention to themselves. Often it is not the quarterback or star running back selected to receive the award but someone in the background who always gave their best effort but usually went unnoticed, according to the Burlsworth web site.

These students are given a Burls Award plaque and a copy of the book “Through the Eyes of a Champion, The Brandon Burlsworth Story” autographed by Brandon’s mother, Barbara Burlsworth.

“We are very proud of Zach and his contributions to our football program,” Travis said.
