Fair weaves old with new

— Both old traditions and new locations will be part of the 62nd annual Pea Ridge Fair which begins Wednesday, July 4. The fair will be held on the school grounds west of Pea Ridge High School off West Pickens Road.

Traditionally held on the school grounds downtown at the corner of Pickens Road and North Curtis Avenue, the fair moved to the City Park last year.

The parade, slated for 5:30 p.m. Saturday, will be on Weston Street. In the past, the parade has been on North Curtis Avenue.

Participants for the parade will begin lining up at 5 p.m. at Community First Bank and travel up Weston Street to the high school, then along the driveway in front of the high school, culminating at the fair grounds. Grand marshals will be Troy Banzhaf and Matt Fry, rangers for the Pea Ridge National Military Park, Kitterman said.

This year, a carnival is scheduled and is anticipated to be the largest carnival ever hosted bythe Pea Ridge Fair, according to Beta Alpha president Karen Kitterman. There will also be fireworks at dark Wednesday night, sponsored by Hudgens Construction.

The official opening of the fair, at 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 4, will be heralded by the singing of the “Star Spangled Banner” by Katie Anderson. That will be followed by three pageants, then music provided by Josh Carnes and band.

Pageants are scheduled for each night of the fair, Kitterman said.

Music Thursday, July 5, is to be provided by Goodbye Majesty and then on Friday, by Josh Carnes. Adam Ash is slated to provide the music Saturday night.
