CLUB NEWS: New Meadowbrook Home Extension Club

— Members of New Meadowbrook Home Extension Club met for their regular monthly meeting at Autumn Place Assisted Living in Pea Ridge on June 13.

The meeting was brought to order by President Karen Launderville, devotions of a touching “Boy takes Walk” was given by Roxie Geddie. Coffee and cinnamon rolls were served by Peggy at Autumn Place.

Eula Anderson was presented a certificate for 50 years membership in the New Meadowbrook Home Extension Club.

Members discussed the upcoming plans for the Club’s Christmas Project and County Fair.

Plans for the Aug. meeting are being made and members will be advised by Roxie Geddie.

The meeting ended with all reciting the Extension Homemaker’s Creed.

Benton County Democrats

Stephen Smith, Professor of Communication at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, will speak to the Benton County Democrats at noon Monday,June 25, at the Elks Lodge, 501 So. 40th Street, Rogers. His topic is “Arkansas Politics: Campaigns from the Courthouse to Cyberspace.” Call Georgi Sterry at 876-5843 to reserve a seat for the program or to order the $12 buffet luncheon served at 11:30 a.m. before the program starts. All are welcome. A brief business meeting is held after the program.

Dr. Smith joined the faculty in 1983 after receiving his Ph.D. in Communications Studies at Northwestern University and completing special studies in First Amendment issues at Harvard Law School. He has been a Visiting Fellow in Wolfson College, Faculty of Law at the University of Cambridge; Visiting Fellow in Manchester College; Faculty of Modern History at the University of Oxford; an Andrew Mellon Fellowin the Dept. of History and the McNeil Center for Early American Studies, University of Pennsylvania; a Visiting Fellow at the University of Wisconsin, LaFollette Institute of Public Affairs; a Visiting Fellow in the Departments of Politics and Anthropology at Princeton University; aVisiting Scholar at Stanford Law School; and a Visiting Professor of Rhetoric and Communication Studies at the University of Virginia.

Dr. Smith teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in Methodology of Communication Research, Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Religion, Political Communication, Rhetoric of American Women and Rhetoric of the Working Class. His books include “Myth, Media and the Southern Mind,” (Arkansas 1985) and others which reflect his experiences as a member of the Arkansas House of Representative, Delegate to the Democratic National convention, VP of the Arkansas Constitutional Convention, Chiefof staff to the Att. General, Ex. Assist to Governor Bill Clinton. He is currently serving as president of the Northwest Arkansas Labor Council.
