— The Pea Ridge City Council was unable to hold its regularly scheduled monthly meeting due to the absence of the mayor, city recorder and one city alderman.

Harry M. Pratt, county clerk and voter registrar, reported that there were 23,294 eligible voters in the county. That was a net gain of 2,261 since June 1, 1971.

The Rev. Joe Sherman arrived in Pea Ridge to assume the pastoral work of the Pea Ridge and the Oakley Chapel United Methodist churches.

Padgett, son of Mr. and Mrs. Winfred Padgett of Pea Ridge, graduated from basic training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego.

Hale Engineering of Pea Ridge was asked by Oliver Rubber Co. of Oakland, Calif., to build a prototype pneuflex loader, which could have the potential to revolutionize the tire recapping industry.

Much needed rainfall, just under eight inches, fell in Pea Ridge over a weeklong period.

Pea Ridge High School students signed theirnames in support of the Olympics. Their signatures were to be part of a large banner to be presented to Olympic athletes before they left for the Barcelona, Spain, site of the games.

Giving signatures were Heather Staggs, Brooke Anderson, Christy Hency, Jamie DeWitt, Jamie Root, Elisha Lacefield, January Wagner and Shekie Liwanag.

In 1994-1995, Roy Norvell’s first year at Pea Ridge as superintendent of schools, the enrollment was 890. Seven years later, as he retired, the ending enrollment for 2001-2002was 1,129.

Shanna VanGalder, a 7-year-old Pea Ridge girl, helped firefighters keep damage to a minimum in a suspected arson fire at Pea Ridge Elementary School.

VanGalder spotted the fire while walking with her mother.

Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Kale P. Brown graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. He is the son of Carol and Charles Harris of Garfield.

Jade Erwin of Pea Ridge, was awarded the 2001 Arkansas AAU Outstanding Athlete of the Year trophy in the Sub-Midget Division, at the State AAU Track Meet.
