COLLEGE HONORS: Ward earns scholarships

— Kelly Ward from Pea Ridge, was awarded a Sarah Jane McGill Endowed Award and Sara Rhoades Harris Endowed Scholarship from the College of Education and Health Professions at the University of Arkansas. Ward is a senior elementary education major and plans to graduate in May 2013. She is the daughter of Rick and Cynthia Ward and a graduate of Pea Ridge High School. Scholarship winners will be honored at a luncheon on campus during the fall 2012 semester.

Smith earns Competitive Research Grant

FAYETTEVILLE - Kelly Holmes Smith from Pea Ridge, a biological engineering major at the University of Arkansas, was awarded a Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship to Japan during the 2011-12 academic year. The national award was earned on the basis of such factors as academic achievement,research and community involvement.

“The recognition and funding that our students receive is not the end goal,”said Suzanne McCray, vice provost for enrollment services and director of the office of nationally competitive awards.
