Library Notes: Stop by the library and stay cool

— Wouldn’t the sound of rain drops falling on the lawn sound good? And let’s add cooler temperatures to that dream. I must say that the library patrons are still getting to the library even in the oppressive heat.

In addition to some new books that we purchased, we have had some good books donated. “The Midnight House” by Alex Berenson, “Divine Justice” by David Baldacci, “Beautiful Sacrifice” by Elizabeth Lowell, “Kiss The Dead” by Laurel K. Hamilton, “Sarah’s Gift” and “Hannah’s Joy” by Marta Perry, “The Columbus Affair” by Steve Berry and “The Changeling” by Philipa Gregory are some of latest to hit our shelves for adults.

Books number 7 through 12 have been added to the “Ghost Detector” series for children. We have added books 1 through 8 of the “Monster Manor” series. There are two new“I Spy” books - “Letters” and “Numbers” and two new Lego City books. My picks for good reading are “My Story, My Song” by Lucimarian Roberts, mother of Robin Roberts of Good Morning America; and “The Road to Grace” by Richard Paul Evans. We are always searching for books that deal with the history of the Ozarks and northwest Arkansas and of course, the Civil War.

Books dealing with life in the 1930s through 1960s seem to be popular now.

The beautiful quilt that was raffled for the library was won by Mrs. Mary Shults. Congratulations to her. When presented with the quilt she had not decided what her plans were forit but I suspect it will be for someone special. Thanks to everyone who stopped by to admire the quilt and purchase tickets.

Just a reminder that the Summer Reading Program ends Thursday, July 26, and all forms must be turned in by 5 p.m. that day. The party will be held on Aug.

  1. The time and place will be announced next week. Had hoped to have a party in the park but the hot weather will keep that from happening.

The Story Hour continues from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

on Wednesdays and Thursdays until school begins.

Many thanks to Mrs. Peggy and Ms. Hannah for doing such a good job.

The library board and I are currently discussing ways to ensure books are returned on time. A book can be checked out for two weeks and can be renewed for another two weeks if it is not a new release or there is not a waiting list. As we only have one copy of each book, it is important that books are returned on time. The average cost of a hardback book is about $25, so replacing a few lost books can be quite costly.

Be sure to stop by the garage sale being held by the “Pea Ridge girls” at Derry Camp’s auction barn Thursday and Friday.

There will be a table of books being sold for the library.

Try and stay cool!
