Jury picks on tap today

— Pre-trial motions were presented Tuesday morning in the first-degree murder trial of Danny Thomas.

Evidentiary motions were filed according to prosecutor Jake Skouby.

More than 60 potential jurors were called and jury selection was expected to begin at 1 p.m.

Tuesday, July 24, in McDonald County, Mo., Circuit Court in front of associate Circuit Judge John LePage.

Witnesses for the defense listed in the supplemental answer to the state’s request for discovery and disclosure include the defendant’s sister, Velda Rideout, two Missouri state troopers, Mc-Donald County Sheriff Robert Evenson, medical records from Hands On Chiropractic Clinic in Pea Ridge and records from the North Carolina Department of Corrections regarding William B.

Williams.

The defendant does not intend to rely on the defense of mental disease according to his attorney C. R. Rhoades, of Neosho.

The crime was committed in Newton County July 26, 2011, but the defense requested the change of venue, according to Newton County prosecuting attorney Jake Skouby.

Darrell Bone was shot three times the evening of Tuesday, July 26, 2011, outside a house inStella, Mo. Bone owned the house and Danny Kay Thomas, 61, lived there.

Thomas is the brother to Bone’s long-time companion, Velda Rideout.

Bone and Rideout lived in Longview, Mo. Bone, 54, was a 1975 graduate of Pea Ridge High School and co-owner of Automotive Solutions with Kent Rylee in Rogers.

Bone’s body was found in the yard of Thomas’ residence at 19348 Missouri Highway O, Stella, Mo., after Thomas told DavidBunch, a Missouri parole and probation officer, he had shot Bone the night before. Bone had gone to see Thomas to tell him to move out since he had sold the 110-acre farm.

Newton County Sheriff Ken Copeland and deputies found the body with one gunshot to the back and two to the face.

Thomas is charged with first degree murder. He has been held in the Newton County, Mo., jail since his arrest. The prosecutor is seeking life without parole.
