RECOLLECTIONS: 40 Years Ago Thursday, July 20, 1972

— An effort was underway to re-activate the Pea Ridge Jaycees. The local Jaycees, once a very active local organization which sponsored numerous community projects and events, were in danger of losing their charter.

Mrs. Doug (Sharon) McKinney said that she was considering getting a license to operate a day care nursery in Pea Ridge if the need existed.

The Pea Ridge City Council heard discussions, but took no official action, on a need for larger size water lines in an area at the vicinity of West Pickens Road and the blacktopping of Davis Street north of Pickens Road to the school drive.

New hours for window service on Saturdays at the Pea Ridge Post Office were established. The new hours were 7:30 - 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 - 5:30 p.m. instead of only morning hours as in the past.

The Pea Ridge All-Star baseball team included Fred Spencer (manager}, Corey Marler, Andy Roser, Robie Thomasson, Sean Stecher, Kenneth Foster, Jim Stecher, Jodie Roberts, Brad Spurlock, Doug Huston (coach), Mike Taylor, Lance Knox, Ron Pearson, Darren Wright (alternate), Paul Burkett, Jason Harris and Greg Forgey.

Beta Alpha Sorority donated $10.85 to the Pea Ridge Park Commission to go toward the picnic tablefund for the pavilion. The money was earned through the sale of pictures donated by The Times at the fair and sold by Beta Alpha. This donation brought the total to $364.09.

The Angels were the 1982 T-ball champions. The team included Linda Kitterman (coach), Eric Crabtree, Clifford Wood, Bubba Burket, Chris France, Michael McAllister, Tonya Kitterman, Ben Paine, Nathan Musteen, Chris Snow, Shelly Cole and Billy Cotton.

Gateway Academy reported they had 11 summer school students.

A U.S. Post Office official served notice to vandalsthat they may face heavy fines and time in a federal prison. Pea Ridge postmaster Debbie Anderson said that there had been a rash of vandals damaging area mailboxes, a violation of federal law.

The Pea Ridge Area Ministerial Alliance said it was out of money and out of food, both of which are critical to the service the alliance provides to people in need.

Clarence Collins of Garfield opened Pea Ridge Tire Shop, which was to be a source of new and used tires and light maintenance for cars and small trucks.

10 Years Ago Wednesday, July 24, 2002 The TIMES of Northeast Benton County

After three months ofwork, the Pea Ridge City Council passed a stronger animal ordinance, repealing two earlier ordinances.

A fire at Miller Seed Co. east of Pea Ridge destroyed about $40,000 to $50,000 worth of fescue seed, straw bales and equipment, according to Franklin Miller, owner of most of the contents of the building.

A cash reward was offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons involved in a drive-by shooting in Pea Ridge. A vehicle drove past the residence on 622 Hickman Drive at Easterling Road and fired a shotgun into a group of amateur radio operators involved in a communications drill.
