’Til Next Time: Mule Jump is in Readers’ Digest

— I was pleased to see that the Pea Ridge Mule Jump had a write up in the July/ August issue of “Readers Digest.” It was in the “We hear you, America,” section.

I understand the Freedom Fest was a great success and now we have July 4 to look forward to.

Walt Disney was quoted as saying, “Laughter is Americas greatest export!” I thought of that after a grandson left the T.V.

turned on and I stepped into the room just in time to catch the last of a Wiley Coyote cartoon. I continued to watch a couple of Road Runner cartoons for a good chuckle. Humor never goes out of style and these old ones still touchmy funny bone.

Mama hen brought her nine new baby chicks up to the water pan the first morning. They were too little to drink. I worried that they would try and fall in so I hurried out with a chick-waterer. I watched her teach them how to do it. I feel sorry for anyone that has never heard a mother talk to her chicks!

A couple of days later, they were sharing the space with a mocking bird that was accustomed to sharing the water pan with chickens. She made a wild pecking dive for him and put him to quick flight. I bet he thought, “Boy, what’s her problem!”

My flowers and tomato plants just don’t do as well with hose water, but we can’t buy, beg or borrow any rain, so keep watering.

The dogs are so hot and lazy that they don’t get up to bark at things. Egg production is down and the cats seldom leave the barn.

The summer of 2012 will be known as hot and dry.

I read somewhere that it’s one thing to be a creature of habit, but another to be stuck in a rut. I guess I’m both!

I haven’t met the new owners of Rainbow Ranch yet. I stopped but no onewas home. Two neighbors came to our house and introduced themselves 40 years ago. They were Tom and Mae Soard and Doc and Lorene Burroughs. I guess people don’t do that much anymore. That’s too bad!

It was interesting to hear the details of the annual United Methodist Conference and that the Rev. Timmons will be our pastor for another year. I’m looking forward to Vacation Bible School in a couple of weeks. See you there!
