Pillars damaged, but replaced

Late Monday afternoon a driver hit the three posts that support the overhang in front of the library. Fortunately the library was not open and there were no cars parked on the street and no one was injured. All three posts were damaged but only the center post had to be replaced. Many thanks to Nathan See and the Street Department crew who were able to make the necessary repairs. These guys are a great help to the library.

In the past couple of weeks, the library has been the recipient of several book donations. One anonymous donation contained several books on Flint Knapping.

A quick Google search answered my question of “What is flint knapping?” Flint knapping is the process of chipping away material from high silica stones like “flint” in a carefully controlled manner with special tools to produce sharp projectile points or tools. Then it occurred to me that these books might bring some decent money if I listed them on eBay. I have spent a few hours at home this past week doing just that, and I am happy to say a couple have sold. Each sale puts us a little closer to a new home for the library. Thank you very much to the donor.

This week we should have a new volunteer at the library. She stopped in this past week and volunteered her services. Another dear lady is wiping down all the children’s books that were donated. The covers of donated books are wiped with a disinfecting wipe before being placed on the shelves.

Many libraries do this each time a book is returned but we simply do not have the man-power to do this each time.

We were able to get some new books processed and on the shelves. In our donations we have received several good paperbacks - romance, general fiction, etc. I do believe we now have enough Nora Robertspaperbacks to wallpaper the new library.

Vote for Pea Ridge

I am trying to remember to log in each day to wehearyouamerica.readersdigest.com and vote for Pea Ridge. I voted about 30 times this weekend. Well, the library is my life… We have less than 1,000 votes.

Higginsville, Mo., has nearly 2,000,000. Surely we can give them and other cities and towns a run for the money! The hardest part of voting is registering the first time. After that it is a piece of cake! It was heartwarming to read what some of the Pea Ridge voters wrote about the library. Thanks everyone and keep voting!
