Baked Apple Doughnuts

1 1/2 c. flour 1 3/4 tsp. baking powder 1/2 tsp. salt 1/2 tsp. nutmeg 1/2 c. sugar 1/3 c. shortening 1 egg 1/4 c. milk 3/4 c. apples, shredded butter, melted Topping: 3/4 c. sugar 1 tsp. cinnamon Preheat oven to 350°. Sift and combine the first five ingredients. Cut in the shortening. Mix the egg, milk and apple together and add to the shortening mixture. Fill greased muffin tins half full. Bake at 350° for about 30 minutes, or until done. Roll warm doughnuts in the melted butter. Mix the topping ingredients together and roll doughnuts through the mixture until coated. Makes 1 dozen doughnuts.
